Do something about gun violence. Thank God. Thank God we did passing the most sweeping gun safety law in three decades. That includes things like that. The majority of responsible gun owners already support enhanced background checks for 18 to 21 years old. Red flag. Keeping guns out of the hands of people who are a danger to themselves and others, but we know our work is not done. Join us tonight is Brandon, say, a 26 year old hero. Brandon put his college dreams on hold to beat his mom's side, his mom's side, when she was dying from cancer. And Brandon. Brandon now works at the dance studio, started by his grandparents, and two weeks ago during the lunar New Year's Celebr. He heard the studio door close and he saw a man standing there pointing semi-automatic pistol at him. He thought he was going to die, but he thought about the people inside. And in that instant, he found the courage to act and wrestled a semi-automatic pistol away from the gunman who had already killed 11 people in another dance studio 11. He saved lives. It's time we do the same. Band assault weapons now band them now once and for all.

Do something, do something. That's our President Joe Biden and part of his stay of the Union Speech. And I'm Jeff Dowdle and this is the Live to Shoot podcast. Give Biden some cameras and a microphone. And undoubtedly he is going to attack the Second Amendment, which he did in that clip. From the, the State of the Union address. Now in that clip, he says a lot of things, you know, some, you know, ban, assault weapons, do something, you know, but he also calls out Brandon, say, who was a hero in the Monterey Park shooting. And he gives him accolades for for what he did. And, but did Joe Biden. You know, one first thought is, you know, how much safer would a Brandon say Ben, if he'd been armed, instead of having to wrestle that attacker unarmed. Two. Why don't we ever call out any of these people that are successful in using firearms to defend themselves? Because it goes against the narrative, right? Goes against the narrative. The president, the leftists, they're all about. Banning firearms and anything that they're, they're, they're going to, they are going to not highlight, they're not going to not amplify as the, as Twitter would say, and they're going to suppress it because it's, you know, Disinformation for whatever they might say. So the Heritage Foundation, which is a conservative think group, they published an article and there's some interesting things in that. But one of the interesting things, and I'll put a link in them in the show notes, is if they've been creating a, a database of handgun or armed defenses that, that have occurred since 2019 and they're, they're calling these all from news reports. So it is, you know, drastically. Not, does not include all of those events. And so it looks like they're capturing on average, about 700 each year in 2023, we, they've got 70 reported, but you can go there and it's really cool. It's a whole of the United States, and you can drill down to the very article of where they found this reported incident and what it incurred. But according to the Heritage Foundation, in their article, they noted that there are roughly anywhere between 500,000 and 3 million times annually that Americans use their firearms and self. And the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention according to by reports, by the Center cdc. And then in 2021, most comprehensive study ever that roughly estimated 1.6 million defenses each year. So, and the Heritage, their database, so there's 1.6 million every year. They're finding on average 700. Reported in the media. There's a big discrepancy there, but if you go to 2023, you click on what they've showed. I went out to our fair state of California and the, there's one being reported in California and I love the headline. This will catch you. This was reported January 10th, 2023 from the Merc Merc Sun Star in Merced, California. And this event happened in Dos PAs, and I'm not familiar with all that area but the headline is Acts Wielding Attacker, shot by Gun Permit Holder, who was defending self in Merc County. And the article talks about how this happened. The property owner saw this gentleman sitting in his vehicle stuck in the mud. This property owner. Was then went to try and help him get the vehicle outta the mud. And according to the release, the man stuck in the mud, became angry, grabbed an ax al his truck, and he began swinging the weapon in a threatening way and tried to hit the property owner who then fired his gun self-defense deputies arrived at the scene and applied a tourniquet to la. To the attacker whose name is Laus while waiting for the ambulance. So that's the type of information you can find. But again, it is happening out there, there are millions of instances of people defending themselves with a gun, and we have to continue to, to communicate that, get that news out. So, Go to use this database. Whenever your friends are talking about it. You can go, you can pull up an article from, you know, this, this is just in January. I could have looked, I could have found one. In fact, I was just looking o on, on the news. And down in Houston, which is here in Texas, just happened yesterday. A lady a ho in a hotel hotel or motel. She was working the front desk. A man come, came in armed with a rifle and she pulled her handgun. I think he realized that she was probably more serious about using her handgun than he was about using his rifle, and he fled the scene. Now, you're not gonna hear about that story in the media on, on the news, on cnn, on M Ms. N bbc, npr. No. This was reported in the paper in new in Houston. But again, 700, you know, average. Findings in the, in the media on an average basis by heritage compared to what they estimate is about 1.6 million. So if we even just started publicizing more mere fraction of those, the media would soon, I believe, would soon realize how important self-defense by a firearm is. And it is not. As Gavin Newso said recently, when talking about the Second Amendment, a suicide, The Second Amendment is not a suicide pact. It is what keeps us safe in the United States. It prevents us from becoming some of these other third world countries. And again, we have to continue to fight for our rights. And you can tell by the president that the left is not giving up. Their desire to ban, and they say semi-automatic, the president said semi-automatic weapons in that. So now that includes a lot more weapons than just quote unquote, assault weapons. Assault rifles. They AR 15. They're probably going down to the handgun level too. We have to continue to fight. Be diligent. Check out this database.
