Welcome to the live to shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Dowdle, and this is a fifth episode of the bonus episodes where you're doing on the 1776 report. If you have not listened to the introduction I encourage you to do so, because it'll explain it while we were doing this. This episode is entitled challenge to America's principles, progressivism. In the decades that followed the civil war in response to the industrial revolution and the expansion of urban society, many American note. Elite adopt a series of ideas to address these challenges called progress. Fizzle. Other than not all of one piece and not without its practical merits. The political thought of progressivism held at the times had moved far beyond the founding era and that contemporary size society was too complex. Unquote instead Progress's believe that believe there were only group rights and are constantly redefined and change with the times. Indeed society has the power and obligation, not only to define and grant new rights. But also to take old rights away as the country develops. Based on this false understanding of rights, the progressive. Design a new system of government. Instead of securing fundamental rights grounded in nature of government operating under the new theory of the living constitution. Should constantly evolve to secure, evolving rights. In order to keep up with these changes government. Would be run more and more by credential managers who would direct society through rules and regulations and that mold to this occurrence of the time before he became president United States, Woodrow Wilson laid out. This new system whereby quote the functions of government or in a very real sense, independent of legislation and even constitutions uncle, meaning that the move. View of government would operate independent of the people far from creating an Omni. Omniscient body of civil rights led only by progressive that progressiveness. Or science. Pragmatism or science though. Progressive's instead created what amounts to a fourth branch of government called at times of bureaucracy or the administrative state, the shadow government never faces elections. And today. Operates largely without checks and balances. The founders always oppose government unaccountable to the FA people and without constitutional restraint, yet it continues to grow. Around us.
