Welcome to the live to shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Dowdell and I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 13 years. I'm passionate about our second men rights and then this podcast, we'll talk about all things related to the second amendment, as well as my throat. A sports story, a movie, a review. Yeah. Or something going on in my personal life. Well, good morning. It is Friday, May 7th and just Quick updates on a few things we've talked about. I am about a week away from my senior graduating and I just got back from the airport. We dropped him off. He is going on his class trip to New York city. So they will be gone for the next six days, I guess. And but last night his high school baseball team won their regional. Playoffs. And so now they are going to state and they will play that game when he gets back from New York city. And this is the furthest his school's baseball team has ever made it. And so it's, it's exciting. We're all thrilled about it. And it's a good way to go out on a senior year. So some other good news happened this week. The Texas Senate passed permitless carry constitutional carry in for the state of Texas. So now we are just a little bit closer to getting that signed into law. Governor Abbott has already said that he will sign it. If it comes to his desk, there are some administrative things that have to be done because they did Put in some amendments. So now it's got to go back to the house for them to either approve with the amendments amendments or modified it again. So we'll have to see where all that that goes. We have to get this done. There's only a few weeks left in the session, so we've got to get this all passed through, up and up to his desk so that the governor can sign it. So some interesting things, you know, the, it was pretty much along party lines. The 13 Democrats Voted against it. Jose Menendez, San Antonio says, I hope to God, that we do that. What we do today does not result in a mistake that will have horrible consequences are heard you to oppose this bill, which I believe will do more harm than good. So just a recap of what this means constitutional carry means that now you can. A person can legally carry a concealed weapon or a holstered open, carry a weapon without having to get a permit. Now, licensed to carry permits will still be available. Those will be for people that, you know, want to. Carrie and other States that have reciprocity, but going forward, if this continues the past, anyone over the age of 21, I believe we'll be able to legally carry a concealed weapon without having to go through the licensing process. Now in this, the Republicans rejected every amendment that the Democrats put in, they put in 18 amendments and something that was, they were trying to require a background checks on private Transactions incentive to gun owners to promptly report, stolen weapons and allowing the countings to op out of permitless carry particularly large counties that they said that faced heightened safety challenges. The eight Republican amendments that were added, included And enhanced criminal penalty for a felony in possession of a firearm from a third degree felony to a second degree felony with a minimum of five years, another change stripped out the house language, which that would require business owners to deliver a verbal or written warning, telling a gun owner that firearms are not allowed instead businesses and private property owners could ban promotes Carey by just posting a sign like they do today with the 36 and the 37. Signs that you see posted. Now the options that we have are that the the house can accept all the changes that the Senate put in. And then send it right to governor Abbott for his signature, or what's more likely is they're going to have to go into a conference committee of the senators and, and the, how the reps and the hash out their differences, and then present another final version that has to go to both houses again for approval. And the session ends in the may. So we are running out of time on this, but we are closer. To getting a constitutional carry in the state of Texas. So it's exciting week, a lot of good things happening there. That's really all we got for today. I don't know if I'm going to do a podcast next week. We have my graduation. So it's going to be a busy week. Next week, the baseball team is going to be in the state final. And then right after that, we've got a graduation and we've got family coming in. So we'll see if I get a podcast out. I've got a few things. Some just general topics. I'm going to be wanting to do some podcast on some of the more that evergreen topics that we can go back and listen to at any point in time. So but good news constitutional carry is just one step closer now, just continue to urge your representatives to to sign it and get it passed and gives up to governor Abbott so he can sign this into law. So I appreciate it by listening. Just again, continue to share this podcast with people. Promoted on your social media like it, subscribe to it. Email me with any comments that you have. I appreciate all the feedback and just go ahead and continue to fight, fight, fight, and we gotta be action. Action, action oriented. We've got to be doers that we can't be just sitting back watching. So I appreciate it. Y'all have a great weekend and I will talk to you maybe next week.
