Welcome to the Live to Shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Doddle and I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 17 years, and this podcast we talk about. All things related to the Second Amendment, as well as anything else going on in the world, or anything interesting in my life, or a sports story, or anything else that might come to mind. And today is kind of one of those anything else that came to mind because the if you have not heard, the State Fair of Texas has done the most un Texan thing that they could probably possibly do. So, as a reminder, I live in Texas, which is outside the Dallas area. I am a proud Texan by the way. I was not born and raised, not a native. My two boys are native, Texans, but I'm not native. But I did get here as quickly as I can. I've lived almost all my life here except for the first 19 years of my life here in Texas. I love being a Texan and I'm very proud of it. And Texas represents a lot of, you know, exactly what I believe. And one of those is, this odd guess is, is a strong support for the Second Amendment. And what has the State Fair of Texas done? They have banned the lawful carry of firearms in the Texas State Fair. So historically, the Texas State Fair, if you are a licensed concealed carry holder, You could carry firearms into this State Fair of Texas, and because of a rule of when we, because the Texas passed a rule that with the constitutional carry, that you carry, and because of this, one of the other things was, is that any place that wasn't prohibited by statute that was government property, you could legally carry firearms. On that property and the State Fair of Texas is on public property. The people that run the State Fair of Texas are not part, it's not a government entity. They are a private organization that rent the grounds, but the property itself is owned by the government. And that is the premise that allows them to permit licensed carry holders to carry their firearm there. The, it should be, could be argued that the State Fair of Texas doesn't have the authority to prohibit firearms. And that is what Ken Paxton is clearly stating, the AG of Texas. He, he sent them a letter that says, Texas law clearly states that licensed carry holders may not be Prevented from carrying a firearm on property owned or leased by the government unless otherwise prevented by state statutes, said Paxton in a statement Wednesday. The State Fair of Texas is a recent policy that infringes on license to carry holders. Second Amendment rights is unlawful. Dallas has 15 days to fix the issue, otherwise I will see them in court. Good job A. G. Paxton, but You know, what prompted this? Well, last year at the State Fair of Texas, a gentleman, an underage gentleman came in with a firearm and injured three people with it. And so now, the State Fair of Texas thinks that the way to solve the problem of criminals not bringing their firearms through is to prevent those that legally do own firearms, that can legally carry firearms, from carrying them into the state of Texas. And all the left and everything, they're applauding this decision of protecting the public. And they're not protecting the public, and we know that. 70 state lawmakers from the state of Texas have also contacted the State Fair of Texas. You know, unfortunately, you know, like the city of Dallas, you know, the Dallas Morning News, very leftist organizations, they're all standing behind this decision and applauding it for being able to keep the public safe. But we know that is not the the end result that will happen for this. So, What can we do? Well, I asked y'all whether you're in Texas or not, would go to the State Fair of Texas or not. Contact the State Fair of Texas for me. I already have. You can do it by either, um, emailing them at info at big text. com. You can call them at I have that number. Here it is 469 945 FAIR, F A I R, or you can also go to their Facebook page and you can post a comment on their Facebook page if you want to get to them directly as well. I suggest doing all three and you can quote. to them what the state fair says that it is its purposes and it says as a celebration of Texas heritage the state fair aims to embody all aspects of Lone Star culture and what is no no more it's it's what sorry but I can't talk this morning what is any more Texas Lone Star culture than firearms the lawful carry of firearms Again, we cannot let the left take over things. It's as precious to the state of Texas as the state fair of Texas. So please reach out to him. Contact them. Don't go to the fair. If they don't change their policy, don't go to the fair. One, you're not safe. If you're in another aspect of this too, is if you've ever been to the fair the area that the fair is in is not a very safe neighborhood. It is a very sketchy to say the least. And you know, when you're in the fair, it's fairly safe. But, you know, I've been there when an incident happened years ago. They, you know, they, it's a 200 and some acres and they are saying that they're going to protect it with 200 officers. So that's in one officer per acre. And if you've been to the fair, you can probably, you know, that's probably true. You know, three or four thousand people that may be in that one acre area. It's quite, you know, so there is not, you know, it can be shoulder to shoulder at the fair. So this is not 200 officers is not going to protect you. You need to be able to carry your firearm in there legally. To protect you and your family. So this is a, you know, this is an important issue. We need to stand, make a stand on this. So contact the fair, give them your opinion, tell them you're not going to attend. And we got to keep fighting. This is just another one of those, those aspects of this one is those stories that we have to fight for. So. Hang in there, keep fighting, and hopefully the fair will change their mind, hopefully Ken Paxton will be successful in his lawsuit. So hang in there, and I will be back with you next week.
