Live to Shoot - Defending our 2nd Amendment Rights

Who Is The Next ATF Director

Jeff Dowdle Episode 230

Welcome to the Live2Shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Dowdell and I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 17 years. In this podcast, we talk about all things related to the Second Amendment as well as anything else going on in the world, or a sports story, or anything. Anything else I might find interesting. So welcome, welcome, welcome. We are getting closer to Christmas. I just love this time of year. I just love it. Love it. Love it. Got a busy weekend ahead of me tomorrow. My son graduates from Texas Christian university with his bachelor of science in sports broadcasting. Very, very proud of him. So excited to see what he's got going for him. He's had a busy year. Got married, graduated from college, now plans are graduate school we'll see how all that lands out, but right now he will be a college graduate. And then on Sunday, I am running in the Dallas Half Marathon, so pray for me, pray for me. Looks like we got some weather, pray for good weather this weekend. It's gonna rain during the ceremonies, they're inside, but and then rain, I'd like some cooler weather on Sunday, but Anyway, so what I wanted to talk about today was, you know, we've talked about, you know, and you've heard in the news, you know Kash Patel for FBI director Matt, you know, Matt Gates originally for attorney general, now Pam Bondi Pete Hagseth for secretary of defense. You know, um, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and all these other potential nominees, but what we have not heard is who is going to be the new director of the ATF. And you know, that's important for all of us. It's an important position. The ATF, along with a lot of these law enforcement agencies FBI you know, Border Patrol even, have been really spending their time less on enforcing the crime and and more in terms of, of pursuing honest Americans, honestly the ATF, you know, has just been going and that securities and exchange commission is another one. And you know, don't want to get into that rabbit hole either, but you know, the ATF has been making up rules as they go along pursuing going after you know gun dealers and the industry and, you know, putting them in jail. And, you know, the FBI stories are endless in terms of how they have just been spying on Americans and not, you know, going after criminals. And what we really need to do is put somebody in the ATF. That it's going to go after the criminals and not the gun, right? We spent spending so much time in the last, you know, 10 years, really, maybe more than that, really going after the gun and not going after the bad guys and we need to flip flop that. So whoever it's going to go in. It's very important, but you know, why haven't we heard about it? Well, there's several reasons. I think one is the ATF director historically has always been a very tough position to get filled and get confirmed because it is so political in terms of gun laws. They are just absolutely so political. But So, the I think Diddleback is the only one that has actually been confirmed actually confirmed in many, many years. Most of them have been held, put in as temporary interim positions to hold down because they couldn't get confirmed. And, you know, I think President Trump is wanting to let some of the, the flames die down from the Controversies around Kash Patel, Pete Hexeth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. You know, the Matt Gaetz what have you, right? And before he goes into the hot, hot waters of the, the ATF. But one name did surface here in the last few weeks or few days probably is Blank Masters. So if you're not familiar with Blank Masters, Blake Masters, he is in the Peter Thiel orbit. He is a venture capitalist. He is in the orbit of JD Vance. Tech bros, you might want to say. He is 38 years old. He has four kids. He's Catholic and married. And he ran for Senate in Arizona. And got. barely beat in 2020 by at that time, Mark Kelly. And then he lost a primary bid for Arizona's eighth congressional district earlier this year. And it's, uh, been interested in, in other various positions within government. But the one thing, you know, is You know, Blademaster has expressed a very pro Second Amendment positions in the past. He said that, you know, the Second Amendment is not about duck hunting. It's about protecting your family and your country. Without gun rights, you have no rights. You know, and you have not heard anything like that from any of the other directors. He builds his own guns. And, uh, you know, he's he's, you know, built, you know, actually blocks of, lowers from a block of aluminum in a CNC machine and It's, you know, definitely a different tone from a potential ATF director that we've had in the past, but what does that mean? That means he's probably going to be very difficult to confirm because he is going to have what people are going to consider extreme values extreme positions. But, you know, This is President Trump, and he has gotten what he wanted, and we have to continue to get him the people that he wants. Now, you know, the ATF Director is in the Department of Justice, so he'll eventually roll up to Pambandi. You know, that's why If any of y'all weren't familiar with you know, the legislation that Matt Gaetz had put out about banning the ATF in general, eliminating it that's one of the reasons why we were so pro on Matt Gaetz. Pam Bondi, you know, we talked about that in last week's podcast. So, you know, we'll be interested to see what type of person that she wants within her organization run the ATF. I really seriously hope that it is a Blightmasters type and not a What we've had there in the past, but you know, the, the legislation that Matt Gates put out it's it's since Matt is not going to be in Congress anymore. It is being picked up by another congressman and it's, I believe has 10 co signers. So, you know, they may try and push that forward. I don't know where that will go. Do I think we need to eliminate the ATF? I don't know. The You know, we've got all these different law enforcement agency and none of them are actually enforcing the law. So I think, you know, definitely something has to be done. Do we want the FBI and those boot kickers? Protecting our second amendment. I don't know. You know they're just used to kicking in doors and coming in and taking things. And I don't know if that's what we want. So eliminating the ATF, I don't know if it's necessarily the direction that we want. You know, there's a, I'm very pro getting rid of all these agencies. But if we can get an ATF director that wants to go after the criminals and not the guns, that's the first step, I believe. And, you know, from looks of things. Black Masters might be it. His name has not been said by President Trump, as far as I know. And so this is nothing official, but that is one rumor that's out there. But, you know, it probably will be quiet around the ATF position come going forward, at least, you know, until maybe we start getting some positive traction on some of these other candidates at this point in time. But We'll wait and see. So, everybody, have a great rest of your week, a great weekend, enjoy your time, and you know, pray for me, pray for my run pray for my son, his graduation just lift those all up to ya, and we'll talk to you later.
