Welcome to the Live Shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Doddle and I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 18 years. In this podcast, we talk about all things related to the Second Amendment as well. Is anything else going on in the world, a sports story, or anything else I might. Find interesting. So welcome, welcome, welcome. Well, I missed you all Last week we took a little break, went to spring training in Surprise, Arizona for the Rangers, and it was a, you know. Up and down trip. We had good parts, bad parts. The weather was for Arizona, was cold and rainy. Drizzly, windy not great. I say but we got to see some cool stuff. We got some up close action with the Rangers which was really cool. Spring training, you can see it in a. A perspective that you, you don't get to see by going to the big league parks. And saw, toured the Chase Stadium and did a lot of other things. On the flip side, we were supposed to go have a day trip to the Grand Canyon, and that got canceled because they got six inches of snow overnight and all the roads were closed. So but it was a good time just being with the family. Love that time. It's always great. But this week well. The Department of Justice and the A TF have been making some waves, some good things, some intriguing and some that just kind of scratching your head. We're talking about reclaiming gun rights for criminals, a potential shift on suppressors and a new general counsel stepping into the A TF. So, you know, grab a coffee and let's. Dive into what's been happening in our fight for our second Amendment rights. So, alright, let's kick things off with a topic that's got some folks cheering and others raising an eyebrow. Reclaiming gun rights for criminals. Now I know what you're thinking. Wait a second. Are we really talking about handing are felons the rifles back? Well, not exactly, but there's a movement here worth watching over the last week. We've seen chatter from the D-O-J-A-T-F that suggests a subtle shift in how they're approaching a certain ca. Certain cases, the focus seems to be on nonviolent offenders. Folks who've paid their debt to society and aren't out there posting a clear threat. I. This isn't about arming hardened criminals. It's about asking a fair question. If someone's done their time stayed clean and it isn't in danger, should they still be stripped of their constitutional rights forever? I mean, the second Amendment doesn't come with an asterisk, right? It's a God given, right? Not a privileged doled out by bureaucrats. That said, I get the other side, public safety's real concern and we don't want guns in the wrong hands. But here's the rub. The data is showing that there's a lot of these nonviolent folks out there. Driving gun crime stats. So why punish them indefinitely? So this, you know, process is really, about simplifying the process for them going to appeal and get their rights back, but no major policy drops yet, but post on X and some whispers from the gun rights community, like our forensic Governor of America, hint that the DOG may be testing the waters. This could be a win for liberty if it's done right, but we. Gotta keep our eyes peeled to make sure things don't turn in, turn into some backdoor loophole for the anti-gun crowd to exploit. You know, and you know, this week with Pam Bond, it's been a, it's been mixed and go, coming into it. Feelings around here were mixed and you know, gun. The Second Amendment in gun rights. It's a very hot topic very similar to abortion and President Trump, he's a, he's a political animal and he knows, you know, kind of how to walk this line. And, you know, I. While I would love us to come out and not to get on the abortion trail, but I am a Christian. I don't, I am very pro-life to just outright say we're gonna abandon abortions. But you know, president Trump hasn't done that and he's got, you know, a lot of the pro-life people have been uneasy about him and his approach to, to abortion. And I think a little bit of that might be true with the way he handles the Second Amendment. I think it's gonna be a very nuanced, a little bit, but you know, so that's why we've seen things. You know, up and down in terms of, of how things have gone. But you know, for example we're gonna shift gears a little bit and, talked to something that this week had, you know, went back and forth and had the second Amendment coming, kind of, you know, buzzing like hornets. Was the DOJ chaining their tune on suppressors? So if you haven't been following along for years, the anti gun establishment has treated suppressors like they're some, you know, Janes Bond villain and gadget. They've argued they're not arms under the Second Amendment, not protected and should stay locked up tight under the NFA. Well hold onto your pro ear, your ear, your hold onto your ear, because last week the DOG threw was a curve ball in a major case. They asked for a 30 day delay to reconsider their stance. So they had previously said that they're not, you know, arms and they're not protected by a Second Amendment, and that got everybody up in arms. Then the gun owners, American, the Second Amendment Foundation, called out a Biden. Era holdover US attorney for doubling down on the suppressors aren't arms onset. The OJ blinked. They're taking a step back to rethink whether their hearing saving devices, let's call them what they are deserve. Second amendment protection. I. This is, is folks really suppressors aren't about making criminals sneaky. They're about protecting our hearing and making shootings safer. Europe's figured it out. They're over the counter in places like the uk. Meanwhile, here we are still jumping through NFA hoops like it's 1934 post on extra lighting up with excitement. Assistant, attorney General Michael Williams even chimed in saying that this could be a game changer. I say it's, it's about time. If the d OJ flips on this, it could mean a crack in the NFA armor. We're not there, but let's fight. It's fight worth watching and winning. Finally, I. Let's talk about the new kid on the block. Robert Lider, the ATFs Freshly minted General Counsel announced this week on March 20th. This guy's no stranger to the Second Amendment. He's a former professor at George Mason SC Scalia Law School. He clerked for, clarence Thomas and has written some sharp pieces defending gun rights like his take on why semi-autos are protected arms on paper. This looks like a solid pick for the team two A, but here's where we might pump our brakes. Lighters replacing Pamela Hicks who got the boot from Ag Binney last month after punishing Biden's anti-gun agenda after pushing anti biden's anti-gun agenda. It's a good Ren in our book, but Lidar got the credentials. But some folks like Mark Smith the four four boxes of diner in a recent video debate says he's raising flags. He's worried that he might lean into a living constitution vibe where rights evolve over time. I'm, I'm not sure the second amendment's pretty clear as, as they shall not be infringed. No evolution needed. Still lighter's appointment could signal a shift at the a TF, maybe a move away from the heavy handed nonsense we've seen. Please hope will stand up for us or just toe the new line. Only time will tell, but I'm cautiously optimistic. We need a general counsel who'll fight for the constitution, not t So. Been a wild week. We will keep our eye on what things are going. Keep fighting straight. Keep shooting straight, keep fighting for freedom, and we'll catch you next time on the live to shoot defending the Second Amendment. Stay diligent. I.
