Big Beautiful Bill Update

Jeff Dowdle Episode 258

Welcome to the Live To Shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Dowell and I've been a licensed farm dealer for the last 18 years. In this podcast, we talk about all things related to the Second Amendment, as well as anything else going in the world Sports story. Or anything else I might find interesting. So welcome, welcome, welcome. Hey, I wanted to hop on, give you a quick update about what's going on with the big beautiful Bill. But before I do that, if you haven't subscribed to this podcast in either Apple, Spotify, fountain, overcast, wherever you listen to your podcast, subscribe to it so you get it regularly. And in the show notes, if you wanna get$25 in an ammo credit from Ammo squared go there. Use my code and you'll get$25 when you buy$20 worth of of ammo. So it's a great deal. But hey, you know, a lot's been going on with the big beautiful bill and the NFA items that's been back and forth and the way it ended, you know, the other day I. Was the Senate finally passed it, but it was a, a version where it stripped out the$200 tax. But the parliamentarian would not allow them to remove it from the NFA. Those crazy rules, I don't understand about what's going on with the Senate, but that's the way it got. Got passed were suppressors, short barrel rifles. You would not, would not have to pay the, the 200 attacks, but you still have to go through the registration process. But now since the Senate changed what the house originally did, now it has to go back to the house to be approved and just I think this, he posted this, either last night. Yeah, yesterday last night or yesterday afternoon's, representative Andrew Clyde from Georgia, he posted on XI just introduced an amendment to the Senate pass budget, reconciliable Ation bill to remove the NFA registration requirement for suppressors, SPRs, sbss, and AOWs. So now rep Clyde. He's putting an amendment in there to, to do that. So let's look at his amendment and I'm gonna, I'll just kind of read out what it says to you. Modification of certain devices under the National Farms Act. Definition of the firearm general, you know, section blah, blah, blah, is amended by striking the first sentence and inserting the following The term firearm machine's a machine. The term firearm means a machine gun or destructive device. So now it's, it's pulling those others just saying, a firearm at per the NFA is a machine gun or a destructive device. Then it says, amended by striking, accept a shotgun modification of treatment of shotguns, or it says, is amended by striking exception, a shotgun or shotgun shell, which the secretary finds is generally recognized as particularly suitable for. Sporting purposes and inserting, accept a shotgun shell and any weapon that is designed to shoot a shotgun shell. Then he says the amendment will be subsequent, shall apply 15 calendar days after the enactment of this act. So he's making it so it will go super quick. Super quick, let me get to the next page here of it. And then he says, registrate, let's, lemme go back. Goes back over here. It says, requirements for National Firearms acts. Weapons determined by reference. In the case of any. Registration or licensing requirement under state or local law with respect to a short barrel rifle, short barrel, shotgun son, or any other weapon as defined, blah blah, blah determined by reference to the National Firearms Act. Any person who. Requires or possess such rifle, shotgun, silencer, or any other weapon in accordance with chapter 44 of Title 18, United States Code shall be treated as meeting any such registration or licensing requirement with respect to such rifle, shotgun, silencer, or any other weapon. So what he's basically doing is he's going after these blue states and he's saying, Hey, if they get, if they get acquire this as a legal firearm, go through the, the, the process just because you might have a law on your state books that says silencers are outlawed, this supersedes that. So there's a bunch of states out there, Texas actually just changed their law that was banning or are requiring the, you know, the registration and everything of silencers. So now this is thing. He's gonna, the amendment is, we're pulling it out of the NFA and any you states out there that are saying they're illegal, doesn't matter. They're still gonna be legal. You can't outlaw'em because'cause of this new amendment, so. Great news, we'll follow it. Can you know, I don't know what's next. I know the Senate's gotta vote on it. I mean, this house now has to vote on it because the Senate changed. If he adds this amendment now, does it have to go back to the Senate? I don't know if this ping pong battle keeps going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, but I. Good news, we're still out there fighting. Contact your rep. Give kudos to Andrew Clyde. Contact your rep. Tell'em that they need to, to keep voting for this. We gotta keep fighting. If we can get these silencers and, and short barrel rifles and shotguns out the NFA. It'll just be one less thing for the, the governments are out there trying to restrict our, our second amendment rights. So I appreciate you listening. Just a quick update, but we'll keep following it and as things change, I will definitely let you know. Thank you and have a great day.
