Live to Shoot - Defending our 2nd Amendment Rights

My Take On The Minnesota Shootings

Jeff Dowdle

Well, welcome to the Live to Shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Dole and I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 18 years. And this podcast is talk about all things related, the amendment anything else going in the world, a sports story or anything I might find interesting. So welcome, welcome, welcome, what a week it's been here in Texas. It's been, we've had one of our little snowmageddon ice storms and, as I'm recording this, it's Wednesday and I really haven't left the house since last Friday. We have had ice and snow, but the big thing is, is that we don't have any way to treat it, any way to get rid of it. And so until temperatures get above freezing for a long period of time we don't have anything we can do about it. And our roads have iced over and I haven't left the house, like I said, since Friday. And today, hopeful temperatures are supposed to get to 40. Yesterday they did get above freezing, but it was so cloudy. It didn't really make a di and it happened so late, it started to refreeze. So been interesting. Today is my oldest son's birthday, so shout out to, to my oldest Happy birthday, 23 years old. Wow. You can hear it. My voice. It's. That's means a lot. But what I wanna talk about is Minnesota and shootings and just chaos that is going on and what, what, you know, what are my thoughts on it? So first I am going to go to the the go shooting, the one where the lady was in the car, and, she attempted to run over the ice or I think it was the ice. I'll, I'll get ice border patrol. But federal agent with her car and he fired off a defensive shot and killed her, and it's tragic and it shouldn't have happened. People need to make better choices. But I believe the officer was in a full right to, to do what he did. These people have been agitating blocking roads and, you know, creating chaos. And these officers are on edge. And when you actually, in the video shows, he got hit by a car. Didn't know what her you know, what was gonna be the next thing and they had to do what to do he could do to stop it. So that's that one. Let's talk about the I believe his name is Preti shooting. That just happened a few days ago. And this one's a little bit more in the gray area in the sense of what happened. And I think Ray, but I don't, I don't really, I don't want to believe that I. I think that this was a, a bad shooting. I don't necessarily know for sure, but we'll get into that just a minute. So he was legally carrying a firearm and I believe two magazines in the area where there was protesting going on. And, you know, this is a, a kind of case where you know, politicians, you know, and can, maybe support Second Amendment, but they don't understand the Second Amendment. And so when they start digging into it, they, they don't really know what truly means to support and be a Pro Second Amendment person. And so we've got a few of them out there. Like you know, Chrissy Nome who came out and said that what was her quote? Let me find it here real quick. That no one goes to, protest peacefully with peaceful intentions. No, that was FBI Director Patel, that no one who wants to be peaceful shows up at a protest with a firearm that is loaded with two magazines that's not a peaceful protest. You know, president Trump said that he said that. Lemme get over here. Hold on. Sorry. He, president Trump criticized him. He says, I don't like any shooting. I don't like it, but I don't like it when somebody goes into his, and he's got a very powerful, fully loaded gun with two magazines loaded up with bullets that doesn't play good either. So that, and Christie Nome was saying that was intent, that Pet Prey's intent was on doing maximum damage on individuals and law enforcement. And this was all on the pre predicate that, you know, that he was carrying a weapon. But he was for the understanding of the Minnesota concealed carry, he was completely within his right to that doesn't mean you have ill intentions just by the fact that you're carrying a weapon. And so I disagree with their, their, their statements on that. But when you do carry a weapon in any situation, but it's, you know. You, you know, you take on responsibility, you know, Spider-Man with great power comes great responsibility and you have responsibility. And that is sometimes not to put yourself into a situation. The gun is supposed to help you get out of a situation. You don't need to be inserting yourself into situations that you could avoid and going into. What has been protest and riots and, and conflicts with police, with a handgun loaded. It, it, it is not a good choice. If I am carrying and I get pulled over by the police officer for speeding the first thing I do is I notify them. You know, I show them I'm not a threat. I show'em my hands. I notify them that I do have a weapon on me. And we determine what's the best situation. A way to handle that situation at that point in time. That is safe for all of us. You have that responsibility also, if you go into a, a situation and you decide to use your firearm for defensive. Thing, even though it's perfectly legal and what you did, there could be consequences of that. And so carrying a firearm has consequences, and I think that's where Prey made his mistake. I don't think he went there with any intention of shooting officers or doing anything like that at all. I don't, I don't know his head, but I, I don't believe that was what his intentions were, but got caught in the situation. Officers have to react. They have to make a decision about what is safe for them and make it and make that appropriate move. More will come out. But, you know, brush analysis that I've seen on this was that, you know, regardless of whether he pulled his firearm, went for his firearm. By the fact that he was resisting arrest and, and, and not following officer's commands. He was committing a felony. And when you're armed and you're committing a felony, that that's, that is illegal. And the officers have the right to, to use deadly force at that point in time. Those are just some analysis that I've seen out there. So, comment, bleep me. Do whatever, you know, tear me apart. That is it. But. So that's my kind of my point on the, the shootings in Minnesota, I think, you know, things have got to step you know, cool down in Minnesota. We've sent Tom Holman there. Hopefully that's gonna help. President Trump says he had a productive call with Governor Walls. That's good. That's positive. Last night. There was some protest and attempts at a, at a hotel where ice agents were staying and Minnesota Police actually stepped in. Minneapolis Police actually stepped in and arrested people, and these people approved it out to be, you know, some bad people. They had some criminal records and such. So the police are kind of stepping in as well. So, but we've got to, you know, the politicians are as much to blame the people in min, the politicians in Minnesota saying that they're going, you know, that they're not going to support the ICE officers the fact that they are holding illegal aliens. And not releasing them to the ice and forcing'em to go into these situations is causing these things as well. So we've got to come up with a better approach to this. People have to calm down. These, these agents are doing the best that they can, I believe. And they need more support than they're getting from their public. And that is what we are here. We are all in this together. And the fact that people are trying to protect these criminals blows my mind. But, more to come. We will see how this all evolves. It's things are, are crazy in this country, but hopefully maybe things are calming down just a little bit. So those are my takes on those two, those two shootings that we've had. And let me know, comment, send me a message, email me all my contact stuff's in the show notes. Let me know what your thoughts are. But those are my thoughts. Take care and I will talk to you later.
