To the Live Shoot podcast. My name is Jeff Delong. I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 18 years. In this podcast, we talk about all things related to the Second Amendment, anything else going on in the world, sports story, or anything else I might find interesting. So welcome, welcome, welcome everybody. I hope everybody's doing great. So before I jump into the podcast episode this week, just wanna give you just a little bit of kind of background for anybody that's new on this podcast and, what it's all about and why I do it. So I've been doing this since COVID. I started this as one of those COVID projects. I started this project to see if I could do a podcast, and been doing it ever since. Almost every week I've done an episode. My episodes are intentionally short. I want the information to be brief, easily consumable, but relevant, and I try and get this out, to people to give you updates, calls to action what have you. Now it's not a big podcast. I'm not making any money doing this podcast. I do it because I like to. I like... I'm trying to promote and protect the Second Amendment help maybe expand my little side hustle of being an FFL, what have you. Majority of my listeners are in the state of Texas but, looking at the listeners, I've got last few weeks, Oregon has been the number one state California, Boston. I, I get listeners from everywhere. And again, like I said, the important message is, is to be short, brief, and, and get some very key information out that I want to, to share and hopefully be informative, interesting, what have you. And so I say all that just to say that, last week, the last two weeks I've done episodes on Ken Paxton call to action about getting out to vote for Ken Paxton for state senator in the runoff against John Cornyn because of John Cornyn's approach to the Second Amendment. Then last week we celebrated that victory and I said, I'm not gonna be doing Ken Paxton, put podcast every week, and today is gonna be the third week in a row for me to do a Ken Paxton Senate race podcast in a row. And the reason is, is because, again, we've talked about who his opponent is John Tallarico, but or James Tallarico, I'm sorry, and Tofu Tallarico, what have you. And so today, just wanna talk a little bit more about, why this is important, why it should be on every gun owner's radar and especially if you're in Texas. And even if you're not, it matters what happens in Texas because it's gonna ripple across the rest of the country. We see a ton of things going on in this country as we look at again, the, the Ken Paxton ousting RINO, John Cornyn, Massey getting primaried in Kentucky. We look at the r- governor and mayor, LA mayor run-offs in, in California. There is change happening, but the Democrats are not gonna go lay down and go, go away easily. They are gonna fight, and Texas is a big trophy that, that they can get a turn, one senator in Texas blue. It's gonna be a big one, and so it's gonna be very important to to get this across. And they have a horrible candidate in James Tallarico. He's a Democrat state representative here in Texas. He's run for Senate, and he has laid out what his priorities would be if he gets elected. And let me be straight with you. If you care about the Second Amendment it's gonna concern you. So who is he? He's in a rep out of Austin, Round Rock spe- specifically. He's been in Texas Legislature for a few terms now. He's one of those guys that positions him- himself as a moderate, as a reasonable Democrat. You know the type. He say things like, "I support the Second Amendment, but..." And everything after that but is what you need to pay attention to, because what comes after the but, in James Talarico's case, is a full menu of gun control priorities. So what's on his list? First and foremost are universal background check. Now, that sounds-- it's one of those things that always sounds reasonable on the surface, universal background checks. If we need to, we need do background checks on who's buying guns. Do we? But we won't, we, we- we won't address that, but 'cause we don't want bad guys getting guns. We already have background checks. Every time you buy a firearm from a licensed dealer like me, you have to go through a background check. That's either going through the NCICS check, or you might have some pre-approved exception, like you're a licensed con- carry, licensed to carry holder, which you already had your background check done then. This has been the law since 1993 with the Brady Act. So what does that universal background checks actually mean? That means every gun, gun transaction. It means every private sale. So if you're gonna sell a gun to your neighbor, you have to get a background check. If you want to give a rifle to your son or trade a pistol with your buddy at the range, you're gonna have to have a background check done. So that means that every transaction would have to go through a licensed dealer like me. Now, you would think for me, that more money. Yes, it w- I would actually... it would, from a financial perspective, my business would go through the roof because of universal background checks. But that's not what I'm about. That's not why I do this. My job, the reason I do FFL transfers and this podcast is to protect the Second Amendment. I wanna make it easy for people to buy guns online, and I wanna make it affordable. There are a lot of people out there that don't like doing the, the transfers because it's not their business, and they charge a lot for it, more than I think they should. But that's their business. And so I want-- I've always wanted to. So increasing my transfers because we're making everybody do background checks is not what I wanna have happen. So- And what would that actually mean? That would mean then essentially the government is tracking and regulating every single transfer of firearm between private citizens. And here's what they don't tell you. Universal background checks are unenforceable without a registry. You can't verify that every private sale went through a background check unless you know who owns what guns. So universal background checks are really just that first step towards a national firearm registry. And a registry historically is the first step towards confiscation. And that's not conspiracy. That's how it's worked in other countries, Canada, Australia, UK. Registry, then con- confiscation. That's the playbook So that's priority number one for Talarico, but it doesn't stop there. He's also talked about red flag laws or what they like to call extreme risk protection orders. Now, we've talked about red flag laws on this podcast before. The idea is that a court can order your firearms to be taken away if someone, a family member, a coworker, an ex claims that you're a danger. And, and in many of these red flag law proposals, you don't get a hearing before you get your guns taken up. They just show up, and they take your property. Then you have to go to court to prove you should get them back. That's complete inversion of due process. You are guilty until proven innocent, and that's what should scare every American, not just gun owners. He's also missing, mentioning support for raising the age to purchase certain firearms and magazine capacity restrictions. So we're talking about the, the full spectrum of gun control talking points here. This isn't a guy who wants to tweak things on the margins. This is somebody who wants to fundamentally change how Americans interact with their Second Amendment. And I'm sure he's got the whole ban AR-15s, assault weapon bans on his list. He just knows he can't come out and say that specifically in Texas right now. So here's the thing about Talarico running for Senate. Texas has been a stronghold for the Second Amendment for a long time. We've got constitutional carry. We've got strong preemption laws. We've pushed back against federal overreach on firearms, but Texas is changing. The Democrats-- demographics are shifting. The urban areas are growing, and Democrats have been pouring money into Texas for years trying to flip it. They see it as the ultimate prize, and if they can flip Texas, they change the entire electoral map. And if you can get a Texas senator from... get a US senator from Texas who is openly campaigning on universal background checks and red flag laws, that sends a message. It tells the rest of the country that even Texas is moving in their direction on guns. So what's that mean? It means we can't be complacent. It doesn't matter what you think. Texas will never elect an anti-gun senator. Beto O'Rourke came within three points of beating Ted Cruz in twenty eighteen, and he was openly calling for mandatory buybacks of AR-15. Three points in Texas, so don't tell me it can't happen. And this isn't just about Texas. If Talarico or someone like him wins a Senate seat, they become a vote in Washington, a vote for universal background checks, a vote for red flag, a vote for magazine bans, a vote to confirm anti-gun judges. Even Senate seat matters. Every Senate seat matters, and the margin right now is razor thin. So Talarico's telling you exactly what he wants to do. He's not hiding it. And this isn't a drill. This is a candidate for the US Senate in one of the most important pro-gun states in the country, and he wants to chip away at our rights. So just stay informed. Tell your friends. Outside even tell, Talarico's a crazy candidate. He's in Texas, and he's having a non-meat campaign. He wants to ban meat in Texas. He believes there's six genders, that God is binary. He supports trans rights, all those types of things that are not part of the Texas ethos. So share this. Let people know. If even if you're not in Texas, donate some money to Ken Paxton. Do a little bit. If you got friends in Texas, tell 'em to vote. This is gonna be important that we get the turnout and that we don't sit on our hands. So stay informed, continue to fight. And if you find this little information valuable, share with other people. Like I said, I keep 'em short intentionally. I don't want you having a a Joe Rogan type experience. Something that you can listen to on a quick walk with the dog or whatever you have. So I try to make 'em there's no ads, nothing like that. Again, this is just me trying to get information out about the Second Amendment and what's going on with our country. So I appreciate it. Share, post, do whatever those things. Take care and have a great day.
